XML Sitemap Validator
Paste an XML sitemap to check its structure, locations, duplicates and common protocol limits.
Private by design: validation happens in your browser. The sitemap content is not uploaded to this website.
What this sitemap checker validates
The checker parses XML, confirms a urlset or
sitemapindex root, counts locations, tests for
absolute HTTP or HTTPS URLs, finds duplicates, and flags entries
without a loc.
What a valid sitemap cannot guarantee
A valid sitemap helps search engines discover canonical URLs, but it does not guarantee indexing. Pages still need to be accessible, indexable, useful and internally linked. Keep canonical URLs consistent and submit the final sitemap in Google Search Console.
Protocol limits
A single sitemap should contain no more than 50,000 URLs and must remain within the sitemap protocol size limit. Large sites should split URLs into multiple files and reference them from a sitemap index.
When to use the XML Sitemap Validator
Use it to check an XML sitemap's structure, URLs and duplicates before submitting it to Search Console.
Examples
- Validate a generated sitemap after a site migration.
- Find duplicate or non-canonical URLs listed in the sitemap.
Common mistakes
- Listing redirected, noindex or 404 URLs.
- Mixing http and https or www and non-www versions.
